Owen SterlingMeeting people in a dream is the mind working through the dreamer’s place among others. This imagery often arises when the mind is sorting through how much of the self is being shared with the world and how much is being held in private.
The presence of others can carry the weight of being watched by many, but the dream mostly functions to widen the dreamer’s view of the community. The movement of the mind toward others provides a space where the boundaries of the self are being re-evaluated.
Physical contact such as greeting people, shaking hands with people, or hugging people strengthens the main dream by indicating a desire for or a successful movement toward social integration. These actions suggest that the dreamer is finding ways to bridge the gap between the self and the community.
Talking to people shifts the focus of the dream toward the act of bringing private ideas into the open.
Meeting unexpected people in a different city expands the scope of the dream to include changes in how the dreamer moves through the wider world of trade and collective interests.
Meeting new people shows that the dreamer is encountering unfamiliar elements in their social world.
Seeing people from high school brings a specific focus on past modes of discipline or early social testing into the current processing. This detail suggests that the dreamer is revisiting old ways of preparing for the world or evaluating how much of an earlier, more structured self remains.
